Phoenix Lightning from Park
An intense lightning storm seen from courtyard park in Phoenix, AZ.
The rain came down in large, thick drops, hitting the tin roof parking structures and making quite a racket. Water flooded into this basin park in a matter of minutes, and is shown here leaving just as quickly. During the storm, I noticed the sprinklers were on; a very important task during a downpour. If you look closely, you can see the sprinkler watering the lawn.
Summertime brings monsoon storms to the Southwest United States. Rain can “flash flood” into an area suddenly and without warning, tearing through the soil and sending debris, like bushes and other plants, downstream. Flash floods can be very dangerous if you find yourself caught in the downstream path, which is why I am weary about entering river beds during monsoon storms.
